Linn County Conservation is now hosting the Wolves and Wild Lands traveling exhibit at the Wickiup Hill Learning Center. Wolves and Wild Lands visually narrates the compelling stories of wolves and their relationship with humans nationwide. Did you know that wolves once occupied every habitat in North America, from mid-Mexico to the polar ice pack? Human encroachment has led to diminished territories and prey for most wolves, but much important work is being done to find a way toward co-existence between wolves and people.
The exhibit is comprised of six preserved taxidermy specimens, each presented in its human and natural history context. Species included are:
Arctic Wolf
Mexican Wolf
Coyote
Red Wolf
Rocky Mountain Wolf
Great Plains Wolf
Informational panels are included which highlight regional information regarding the impacts and challenges for each species. Topics also include the most recent research and population statistics and the human perspective on what it means to live with, or without, wolves.
The exhibit is on loan from the International Wolf Center. Wolves and Wild Lands will be on display during the Wickiup Hill Learning Center’s normal operating hours until July 20. No cost to view the exhibit.
