Sweet Adelines International Takes the Stage in Cedar Rapids April 20-23, 2023

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA – The Cedar Rapids Tourism Office is pleased to announce that Cedar Rapids will once again host the Sweet Adelines International Region 5: Spirit of the Midwest Competition & Convention at the Paramount Theatre April 20-23, 2023.

The annual chorus and quartet competition will feature participants from Iowa, Illinois, Kansas, Missouri, and Nebraska. Approximately 500 female singers of all ages and from all walks of life will perform throughout the 3-day event. The chorus and quartet winners, will both qualify to compete in the upcoming International Competitions: the first-place quartet in Louisville, Kentucky in October 2023 and the first-place chorus in Kansas City, Missouri in October 2024. 

The 2023 Competition will feature 16 quartets and 13 choruses during the 2 days of competition at the Paramount Theatre. Quartet Competition is Friday, April 21 beginning at 4:00 PM (doors open at 3:00 PM) and Chorus Competition is Saturday, April 22 beginning at 12:00 noon (doors open at 11:00 AM).  The Saturday event will also feature a performance by the “Young Voices in Harmony” chorus, made up of local students and singers under the age of 25.

Anyone in Cedar Rapids this weekend will surely feel the excitement and hearing the sound of hundreds of women singing joyfully will be unavoidable! We want to spread our harmony throughout Cedar Rapids, The City of Five Seasons.” says Michelle Franzen, Spirit of the Midwest Region Marketing Coordinator.

We can’t wait to have them once again fill The Paramount Theatre and our community with their unique harmonies,” says Julie Stow, Associate Executive Director of the Cedar Rapids Tourism Office.

The event is open to the public and tickets are available for purchase at the link below. An All Events Pass is $90 and a single event ticket is $45. The tickets purchased through the online link can be picked up at the Paramount Theatre’s “Will Call” window.
