May 16 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM
120 E Boyson Rd Hiawatha, IA 52233 (319) 395-6700Overview
(ONLINE) In this day-long Spirituality in the 21st Century event, experience practices paired with the teachings of Bonhoeffer, Berry, and Harjo
In times of overwhelming social and political chaos, we need grounding in the sacred kinship that sustains us, the Earth-relationships that comprise us. This day together will open into teachings from humans of many traditions and the wisdom of this place and its creatures and waters and wind. What does it mean to assert, with theologian Dietrich Bonhoeffer, that “God and world are one reality, not two” – or, with geologian Thomas Berry, that “the universe is the ultimate sacred reality” – or, with Muscogee poet Joy Harjo, that “we must take the utmost care/ and kindness in all things”? How might we too come to perceive this Earth, our own homes, our own bodies, as holy ground? What does such perception make possible for our hearts, our health, our sanity, our spirituality, our action in the world?
Through this experience, you will be invited:
- To encounter land, creatures, presences, of the more-than-human world
- To explore how such experience connects with your own heart, faith/spirituality, the
Divine - To learn to see the world and ourselves with new eyes, with new hearts, as dwelling
places of the Divine - To consider and honor the sacredness of all that is: the re-enchantment of the world
- To participate in indoor and outdoor ritual/spiritual practice
- To connect with others in discussion and contemplative presence
- To open to teachings from humans of many traditions and to the wisdom of this place and
its creatures and waters and wind
