Mary Sharp was The Gazette's metro-Iowa editor for 16 years, from 1994 through 2010, before retiring and then coming back as a part-time editor before retiring, for the second time, earlier this year. Sharp directed The Gazette's coverage of the 2008 flood, one of the most challenging times in the newspaper's 143-year history. She's got stories, triumphs and failures, and counts herself lucky to have worked with a talented staff as they wrote the first draft of Eastern Iowa's history.
