Mansion Mixer: Tiki Talk
Jun 25 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM
Brucemore 2160 Linden Drive SE Cedar Rapids, IA 52403 (319) 362-7375Overview
In the basement of Brucemore’s classic Queen Anne mansion is a surprising spot – a tiki bar! It isn’t just any tiki bar, though, this is the oldest known example of an in-home tiki bar in the country. So… why is there a tiki bar in an Iowa mansion’s basement and who put it there? What exactly is “tiki culture” and where did it come from? What does tiki culture mean today? Join us in our Tahitian Room tiki bar to catch an island vibe and discover the answers to these questions (and more!) at Mansion Mixer: Tiki Talk.
During the social open house, you are welcome to explore the mansion (which may come in handy for the evening’s group activity). Also, make sure to find time to play some mid-century inspired lawn games, like limbo and hula-hooping. Once presentations wrap up, we’ll finish the evening with our team-based activity – a bingo-style scavenger hunt that will have you moving through the whole house!
