PhD Student, John Momberg will speak on Gravitational Lensing
Einstein predicted that massive objects can bend the path of light passing near them due to gravity. When this effect occurs on light from distant objects in space, it can produce striking distortions, causing the lensed object to appear stretched and warped, like reflections in a funhouse mirror.
This phenomenon is not just visually striking; it is also a powerful tool for astronomical research. In this talk, we will explore how gravitational lensing works and how astronomers use it to study the universe in new and unexpected ways.
