CONNECT WITH NATURE
Linn County Conservation is committed to protecting and enhancing the county’s natural spaces while creating opportunities for all ages and abilities to experience the outdoors, not only to inspire exploration, but also support mental and physical well-being. From woodlands to waterways, the department manages more than 9,000 acres across Linn County, including over 30 parks, trails, and natural areas that invite residents and visitors alike to connect with nature.
FLAGSHIP PARKS AND OUTDOOR RECREATION
Buffalo Creek Park, is home to a new playground, shelter, restroom facility and additional campsites. Take a hike on the 1.2-mile trail that runs by Buffalo Creek to see one of the largest natural collections of bluebell wildflowers in the region, during late April and early May.
At Morgan Creek Park, visit the Arboretum with a beautiful butterfly garden and over 250 species of trees and shrubs, stroll through 4-miles of trails, and bring your kids to explore one of the largest playgrounds in the region with large climbing areas, ziplines, slides and swings for all.
Tackle the land, water and sky all in one spot at Pinicon Ridge Park. With over ten miles of hiking trails, march through areas of restored prairies and wooded hills. Test your skills on the mountain bike trails, including the Gravity Park, offering you the adrenaline thrills of downhill riding! Visit the Watercraft Concession to rent kayaks, canoes, paddleboats, and paddleboards to float along the backchannels of the Wapsipinicon River within the park. The park offers six cabins for rent, including two that can accommodate large families and groups.
Outdoor enthusiasts can explore miles of multi-use trails for hiking and mountain biking at Wanatee Park. Additionally, families can enjoy playgrounds, picnic shelters, and a variety of wildlife just outside the Cedar Rapids metro area.
WICKIUP HILL LEARNING CENTER
Linn County Conservation’s nature and education hub features indoor exhibits on Native American heritage, archeology, wetland and woodland ecosystems, as well as interactive learning zones for all ages.
CAMPING
Linn County Conservation manages multiple campgrounds for your next nature-based experience, perfect for both tent and RV campers. Most campgrounds include modern amenities like electrical and water hookups, showerhouse with restrooms, a playground, and much more!
