Three remarkably accomplished young musicians come together in T’Monde, the Acadian phenomenon that Offbeat magazine has called “a creative fusion of classic country and out-of-the-way Cajun.”
Three remarkably accomplished young musicians come together in T’Monde, the Acadian phenomenon that Offbeat magazine has called “a creative fusion of classic country and out-of-the-way Cajun.” The band began in 2011 as three friends who liked playing together. Lafayette native Drew Simon had taken up the accordion as a teen, though it would be another five years before he actually owned the instrument. He’s since played with Balfa Toujours, the Lafayette Rhythm Devils, the Savoy Family Band and the Pine Leaf Boys. A native of Tepetate, Louisiana, Megan Brown is a fixture on the Lafayette scene, playing guitar and singing with a host of Lafayette bands. Rounding out the trio is jolie blonde Kelli Jones-Savoy, who grew up playing old-time music in North Carolina, before moving to Lafayette to study French. An in-demand fiddler, singer and songwriter, she has performed with everyone from the Magnolia Sisters to Feufollet. T’Monde has developed a unique sound unmatched in Cajun music. Incorporating a vast array of influences, from early country, to ancient French and Creole ballads, to contemporary pop, T’Monde plays innovative music that’s made for the ears and the brain, as well as the feet.
