Orchestra Iowa Masterworks III: American Dreams, featuring The Harlem Quartet

The Harlem Quartet, known for their “fresh, bracing and intelligent” artistry (Cincinnati Enquirer), will be the featured guests on this all-American program, performing Michael Abels’ Delights & Dances, a work that incorporates a fusion of jazz, blues, bluegrass, and Latin dance. A new work by Michael Gilbertson will be the second Orchestra Iowa Centennial commission of the season. Driving dance rhythms, heart-wrenching love songs, and famous battle cries (“Mambo!”) wrap the program up with one of Leonard Bernstein’s most beloved works, Symphonic Dances from West Side Story.
