Museum offering $1 admission and Peace Pole activity.
The African American Museum of Iowa will be open on Monday, January 21 from 10 AM to 4 PM to celebrate Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. Admissions will be discounted to $1 for all patrons, with children under 5 and members receiving free admission. Join us for a day of learning, reflection, and crafting in celebration of Dr. King’s vision of integration and his legacy of peace.
Throughout the day, visitors are encouraged to participate in decorating Peace Poles in honor of Dr. King’s message of peace and non-violence. These poles are roughly 4”x4” and are inscribed with a variety of translations of peaceful messages in languages from around the world. The museum will be supplying the poles and the supplies for decorating in partnership with Veterans for Peace Chapter #169. Once decorated, the poles will be displayed at public locations throughout the Cedar Rapids area.
