This will be a once-in-a-lifetime experience for your young artist! CRMA Summer Art Camp is for children who are completing grades 1-5 this spring.
Get ready to dive into the blue! This year’s CRMA Summer Art Camp is inspired by our summer exhibition, INTO THE BLUE. The artwork that will be featured in this exhibition celebrates this hue in all types of media and subject matter. We’ll examine how blue has been incredibly important to artists for centuries: from the luxurious (and expensive!) ultramarine used to color the Virgin Mary’s cloak and star-studded vaults of heaven in medieval and Renaissance art to the exuberance of Yves Klein’s trademark shade. We’ll also explore the science of color, from how the eye perceives it to where pigments come from and how early artists concocted their colorful media.
Join us this summer for a wild week of creativity, including ceramics, glass, mixed media, sculpture, and paint. We’re inviting local artists who are featured in our juried exhibition to visit and demonstrate their skills, and we’ll again partner with the Iowa Ceramics Center & Glass Studio.
